Gili Trawangan, A Haven for Water Sports Lovers

Gili Trawangan, also known as Gili T, is known for its beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters. It attracts many types of tourists, but those who love the water and marine life especially love the island.There are plenty of water sports and activities that you can enjoy around the Gili Islands thanks to the great weather, clear water, and ease of access. Here are just some of the water sports you won’t want to miss on Gili Trawangan.

Snorkeling

The waters around the Gili Islands are rich in marine life, making snorkeling one of the most popular activities for tourists visiting the islands. It is easy to rent snorkeling gear from stands on the beaches and explore the underwater world filled with colorful coral reefs and tropical fish. In front of Villa Almarik is an especially good spot for snorkeling with sea turtles, so head straight out from the beach and make some friends!

Scuba Diving

Gili Trawangan is renowned for its scuba diving opportunities. In fact, within 15 minutes of Villa Almarik there are over 20 amazing dive sites. Turtles, rays, reef sharks, and huge numbers of colourful fish are seen at most locations around the island. Beginner dive trips and guided dives for experienced divers are easy to book through Villa Almarik.

Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP)

Paddleboarding is a relaxing and enjoyable way to explore the calm waters surrounding Gili Trawangan. You can rent SUP boards and paddle along the shoreline where you may encounter sea turtles and other marine life. This is a great way to see the island from a new perspective as well.

Sea Kayaking

Just like SUP, renting a kayak is pretty easy on Gili T and gives you a new view of the paradise island. Paddle your way around the island or if you are more confident, go on guided tours that take you to nearby Gili islands for a more extended adventure.

Surfing & Kiteboarding

If you’re into surfing, some places on Gili Trawangan offer surfing equipment rental and even lessons. If the conditions are right, you might find kiteboarding opportunities on the island as well.

Fishing Tours & Boat Trips

Whether you want to fish for large pelagics like tuna and mahi mahi or learn traditional fishing methods, there are fishing tours available for you. You can also leave the fish where they are and take a boat trip around the Gili Islands or to nearby Lombok to enjoy the scenic views and maybe even spot some dolphins.
