Gili Trawangan and Villa Almarik through the eyes of Arini our Guest Relation Officer

Villa Almarik is on the island of Gili Trawangan, about 15 minutes by boat from mainland Lombok. Many of the staff come from Lombok but live close to the hotel, for ease of getting to and from work every day. Working on Gili Trawangan is a little different from visiting, so we thought one of the staff members at Villa Almarik might be able to tell us what to see and do on the island. We asked Arini Noviana, who works in the front office a few questions to learn the secrets of Gili T.

• Hi Arini! Could you tell us a little about yourself?

Hi there! I come from North Lombok, but live in Gili Trawangan. All the staff live in a homestay provided by Villa Almarik, but I often go home on my day off.

• How long have you been working at Villa Almarik?

I’ve been working at Villa Almarik since June 2016, so 1 year and 9 months.

• What can guests expect when they arrive on Gili Trawangan?

All guests can expect an excellent holiday when they come to Gili Trawangan. When you arrive into Gili Trawangan you’ll see the white sand and clear water. You’ll never forget your holiday on Gili T.

• Why would you recommend that travelers stay at Villa Almarik rather than any of the other hotels on the island?

Villa Almarik is in a great location. It’s quiet but not too far from crowded areas. You also have the best snorkeling on the island right in front of the hotel. You’ll see turtles and can swim with them. The beach is also beautiful, with white sand and beach chairs and umbrellas all set up for you. Of course the staff are all friendly and you’ll get excellent service at Villa Almarik.

• What is your favorite part of Gili Trawangan?

My favorite part of Gili T is being able to take snorkeling trips. I also love the beautiful beaches, Sunset Point, the sunset swing and also watching the sunrise.

• What do you recommend for guests to see or do on the island?

I would definitely recommend for guests to take diving or snorkeling trips around all 3 Gili Islands (Trawangan, Meno & Air). There is so much to see under the water here. Fishing is also great around Gili T and the sea is perfect for stand-up paddle boarding as well.

• What is your top tip for enjoying your stay on Gili T?

My top tips would be…Prepare yourself and make sure you’re ready to explore the island. You’ll find so much here, you probably won’t want to leave. Also definitely take advantage of all the activities like snorkeling, diving etc. The island is a very special place for these things, so you should spend as much time in the water as possible! Lastly, take time to relax and enjoy the spa treatments and massages offered. You can leave feeling totally refreshed and energized.
